At its July 27 meeting, the Gonzlaes County Commissioner’s Court tabled a possible burn ban after Tropical Storm Hanna delivered less rain than expected over the weekend by County Judge Patrick C. Davis. The ban as an actionable item on the Commission’s agenda will be addressed at its August 3 meeting.
“I’ve talked to Chief Schmidt and he’s also talked to all of the surrounding fire chiefs in both Nixon and Waelder, they’re all in agreement that it’s getting pretty dry and we’re sitting right at 600, which is high,” Judge Davis said. “I know that is not the maximum but it’s almost there. Guadalupe County just enacted theirs last week, and we just did not have a meeting.”
“I don’t know if we’re going to get any more rain this week, however it’s a slight chance and I thought we’d have gotten a little more rain out of this system that was in the gulf, which we didn’t.”
Judge Davis moved that the item be tabled until the next meeting in case the county sees more rain over the next couple of weeks, which was seconded and carried.
