Gonzales Emergency Services Distirct No. 1 board members discussed the possibility of recommending a new Commissioner to fill seat number two on the board.

This appointment would last through the seat’s term which ends on Dec. 21, 2020 and be reappointed for a two-year term.

Dr. Commie Hisey, Chief of Staff at Gonzales Memorial Hospital and Vice President of the board, recommended that someone from the Nixon or Smiley area be selected.

Board President Rene’ De La Garza suggested that the board take time before the next meeting to consider candidates, and the item was tabled for the next meeting on Nov. 19.

In his Director’s Report, Emergency Medical Services Director Eddie Callender said the rescue team had received a donation of Jaws of Life, cutter and ram from the Gonzales Health Foundation to aid in rescue efforts. Team members also received a donation of a “sophisiticated” training mannequin.

Continuing previous discussion of plans for a new EMS station in Nixon, Callender said there are “positive vibes” regarding a possible joint project in the area, but that details are being ironed out.
