Gonzales Healthcare given prestigious 4-star award

Hospital celebrates achievement at thrive

Forgive the employees and management of Gonzales Healthcare Systems if they are popping their buttons with pride these days.

The reason?

The local hospital just received their fourth star from Hospital Compare, a national consumer-oriented website that provides information on how well hospitals provide recommended care for their patients. With the additional star, Gonzales Healthcare System can now boast that it is an above average hospital that is providing 4-star care to its patients.

Hospital Care uses performance measure information related to heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgery and other conditions. Those results are organized by: general information; surveys of patients’ experiences; timely and effective care; complications; readmission and deaths; use of medical imaging and payment and value of care.

The national average for hospitals is 3 out of 5 stars.

To celebrate the 4-star achievement, the Gonzales Healthcare System hosted an employee (and their families) celebration and thank you at Thrive on Saturday evening in Gonzales. Food, games, swimming and inflatables were set up in and outside of Thrive for kids to play and for adults to converse.

It was a big evening for the hospital.

“As native Texans, our entire staff has a passion for delivering exceptional healthcare right here at home, and we are encouraged by the strong support from our Hospital Board of Directors, Medical Staff, Employees and Community Members,” stated John Hughson, Gonzales Healthcare Systems CEO. “We’ve been listening carefully to the community and have learned that you value and support having a local hospital. With that in mind we will continue to take this hospital to the next level of healthcare excellence. And today the hard work has been rewarded as the Centers for Medicare announced that we have been upgraded to a 4-star hospital! It’s a new day for health care in Gonzales.’’
