Gonzales to honor its brave and fallen

Tour Gonzales is pleased to announce two new events that will be held both in celebration of Texas Independence Day, as well as in commemoration of the significant contributions and sacrifices of the Gonzales community during the Texas Revolution.

On Monday, March 2, 2020, the City of Gonzales, in partnership with the Gonzales County Historical Commission, will host its inaugural “Toast to Texas” at 10am at Texas Heroes Square in Gonzales, TX.  The community is invited to gather together to celebrate this pivotal moment in Texas’ history when the Texas Declaration of Independence was adopted in 1836.

On Friday, March 6, 2020, the City of Gonzales, in partnership with the Gonzales County Historical Commission, will also host its inaugural “The Story of Our Heroes: Immortal 32” at 11:30am at The Gonzales Memorial Museum in Gonzales, TX.  The ceremony, held in solemnity, will honor the bravery and sacrifices of the Immortal 32, as well as the additional nine gentlemen from Gonzales that answered Col. Travis’ pleas for reinforcements during the siege and battle at The Alamo.  This is a public event and the community is invited to come together for this special ceremony.

Along with these events, thirty-two men and young men from Gonzales will answer the call again and participate in a living history reenactment event at The Alamo in San Antonio on Sunday, March 1, 2020: “The Arrival of the Immortal 32”.  Many of these gentlemen are direct descendants of Alamo defenders, and all take great pride in participating in this event. City leaders, such as Mayor Connie Kacir, will be in attendance providing comments on behalf of the City of Gonzales.  The Young Texians, students that are part of The Young Program with The Crystal Theater and ranging in age from 8-16 years old, will also be performing at the special event.

As the birthplace of Texas freedom, Gonzales is proud to take this time to reflect upon the rich history of our community and state; to honor and celebrate it with our community members and visitors. Both events are open to the public with a private lunch to be held on March 6 for designated Guests of Honor, following the ceremony.
