I-10 blowout causes rollover

GONZALES — A blowout on Interstate 10 last week caused a car to crash into the median, sending four people to the hospital, officials say.

The Texas Highway Patrol reported that at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 11, a 2016 Mazda Passenger Car driven by Janyth Fredrickson, 71, of New Braunfels was headed eastbound on I-10 when the car’s right rear tire blew out. Troopers said the shattered tire separated from the rim, flying off completely.

Fredrickson lost control of the vehicle, which careened into the median, sliding sideways on its right side, causing it to roll twice over the center safety cables. The car came to a rest on its tires, facing north, troopers said.

Frederickson and three passengers, one a 72-year-old woman, along with two children, ages six and 10, were taken to Gonzales Memorial Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.
