Inaugural holiday invitational set for Dec. 27-28

Nixon-Smiley’s inaugural Holiday Invitational begins Friday as both the Mustangs and Lady Mustangs will play against four teams each in a round robin format tournament.

On the boys’ side, Nixon-Smiley will take on Marion, Weimar, Natalia and Navarro. For the girls, Nixon-Smiley will face Stockdale, Bloomington, Natalia and Yorktown.

The morning games will take place both in the middle school gym and the high school gym, with the rest of the games taking place at the high school gym.

Trophies will be given to the first and second place teams as well as 10 all-tournament awards.

Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs

On Friday, the Lady Mustangs will take on Yorktown at 9 a.m. in the high school gym, then Natalia at 6 p.m. in the high school gym. On Saturday, they place Stockdale at 9 a.m. and Bloomington at 6 p.m., both at the high school gym.

Nixon-Smiley Mustangs

The boys will open tournament play with a 10:30 a.m. game on Friday against Navarro. They then play Natalia at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, they take on Marion at 10:30 a.m. and then Weimar at 7:30 p.m.

Both teams then go on break before traveling on Friday, Jan. 3 to take on McMullen County, with the girls playing at 11:45 a.m. and the boys playing after at 1:15 p.m.
