Independence Golf Course hosting two-person scramble

The dates are the same but the golf tournament has changed. What had been the annual Booster Club tournament's dates were left empty after the group declined to sponsor the event this year. A group calling itself the Independence Golf Course Benefactors formed and decided to take advantage, organizing a two-person scramble, May 6 and 7 to benefit Independence Golf Course.

The organizers said proceeds will be placed in a special account maintained solely by the city for repair and maintenance needs, much of which is unanticipated but requires immediate attention.

The Independence Golf Course Benefit will feature four flights. First and second flights will tee off at 8 a.m., Saturday and 1 p.m., Sunday. Third and fourth flights will tee off in the afternoon on Saturday and then Sunday morning.

The group hopes to have a complete 72-team field and is over halfway. First place purse is $800. Second and third are $600 and $400 respectively. A special $10,000 prize for a hole-in-one will be waiting to be claimed on Saturday, sponsored by Tresner Insurance Agency. Food both days will be served by Baker Boys BBQ.

Costs for the tournament includes a free practice round on Friday and is $140 per person or $280 per team. Deadline to enter is May 4. Contact Ryan Lee, 830-857-6093 for more information.
