Gonzales finish first half of district winless
The Apaches have had their struggles in District 27-4A, concluding the first leg with no wins as they dropped a home tilt to Navarro, 66-50. They take on La Vernia on Tuesday.

Mustangs outmatched in second half
Despite a 15-6 lead in the first quarter, the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs (1-8) lost their eighth district game of the season, losing 51-40 to Stockdale (5-4) on Jan. 26. Up 23-18 at the half, Stockdale would outscore Nixon-Smiley 33-17, including a 20-8 fourth quarter, to win by 11. Jose Rodriguez led the team in scoring with 12 points. Jason Yell added seven while Daniel Rodriguez, Colby Newman and Elix Carillo had five each. Jaren Mendez had four points and Jesus Vasquez had two. The Mustangs host Yoakum (0-9) on Tuesday, with tipoff scheduled at 8 p.m.

Wildcats stay on top
Waelder (5-0) remain undefeated in District 30-1A, knocking off Prairie Lea (0-5) at home, 90-42. Wildcats host Parents’ Night on Tuesday against their rivals, the Moulton Bobkatz, with tipoff scheduled at 7:15 p.m.

Cardinals prevail over UC First Baptist
Shiner St. Paul took down UC First Baptist 65-20 on Friday, Jan. 26. The Cardinals are scheduled for a non-district home game on Tuesday before traveling to Victoria Faith Academy on Feb. 2 for another district game.

Lady Apaches drop to fourth in district
The Gonzales Lady Apaches dropped to fourth place in District 27-4A after losing 64-45 to Navarro on Jan. 26. The Lady Apaches moved to 4-3, tied with La Vernia. La Vernia won the first contest over Gonzales on Jan. 12. They play again on Tuesday.

Nixon-Smiley lose on the road
The Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs (0-11) had a tough first half, being outscored 33-12, before improving in the second half, but ultimately losing 51-33 against Stockdale (3-8). Maggie Mendez led the team in scoring with nine points. Chaelee Mejia added six points while Katy Tschoepe had five points. The Lady Mustangs host Yoakum (8-3) with tipoff set for 6:15 p.m.

Lady Cardinals continue dominance
Shiner St. Paul won over UC First Baptist 63-23. Delynn Pesek led the team in scoring with 15 points. Gracey Novosad added eight points while Anna Adamek had seven. The Lady Cardinals’ next scheduled district game is on Friday on the road against Victoria Faith Academy. They host a non-district game on Tuesday.
