The Gonzales Inquirer has announced a new valuable member to the team.

Susie Bernd has been named the new sales representative for the newspaper.

Born and raised in Pawhuska, Okla., Bernd is a retired teacher who has many years of experience in business administration, marketing and advertising.

“I taught business and technology classes [in high school],” Bernd said. “Prior to teaching in 2007 I was earning my master’s in business administration and worked at the junior high school, so I worked at the school district in Pawhuska for over 16 years.”

She earned her associate degree at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, Okla. before graduating with a bachelor’s and a master’s at Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

Bernd also had a stint as advertising manager for the Pawhuska Journal Capital from 1986-1993.

“Susie is a great person who cares about the people she works for,” Gonzales Inquirer Publisher and Editor Terry Fitzwater said. “She is a true pro with years of newspaper sales experience and will be a huge asset to this community and our newspaper. I am thrilled to have her on our staff.”

Bernd has already started introducing herself to the community, making it known early that she is here for the customer.

“I like talking with people, meeting new people, finding out what their needs and wants and goals are and just who they are in general,” Bernd added. “I have no problem talking with anyone. It’s always a new day, every day is a new day, that’s what I like about it.”

The Gonzales County community has been very open to Bernd and she looks to reciprocate the warmness that she’s received so far.

“[The community is] nice, friendly and receiving,” she said. “I haven’t had any problems speaking to anyone. Everyone is really nice, and I like that.”
