James Anderson “Bugs” Caddell

James Anderson “Bugs” Caddell, 71, of Gonzales, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016. Jimmy was born March 13, 1945 in Nixon to Edgar Caddell and Glena Ruth Lewallen Sloan. He proudly served in United States Army National Guard for 20 years, retiring as Staff Sergeant E-6, where he served as a cook, clerk and recruiter. He also retired with the Texas Department of Transportation after 30 years of service. 

Bugs, as he was fondly known, graduated from Gonzales High School with the Class of 1963. He married Kathleen Copeland Wagner Jan. 13, 1995 in Las Vegas. He enjoyed fishing, coaching Little League, playing softball, dominoes and morning coffee drinking with his good friends. He so loved baseball that he coached Little League for five years after his youngest child left the league. He pitched softball with the “youngsters” until he finally decided he was too old. Bugs was a very opinionated man and you always knew where you stood with him, good or bad. 

James Anderson Caddell is survived by his wife of 21 years, Kathleen Caddell; children, Stacy Scott (Steve), Kim Mica (Randy) of Sweeny, Crissy Jo O’Neal (Mark), Justin Caddell of Shiner; step-children, Adam Wagner (Maggie) of San Marcos and Misty Humphrey (Jason) of Tyler; grandchildren, Bobby Scott, Jacob Scott, Darren Mica, Michael Mica, Devin Taylor, Wyatt Caddell, Jace Caddell, Annie Wagner, Lukas Wagner, Caedmon Humphrey, Zoe Humphrey; great-grandchildren, Trinity Mica and Zoey Mica; sister-in-law, Camilla Sloan; nieces, Codie Sloan Fruge and Candice Sloan. He was preceded in death by brother, James Millard Sloan and parents, Glena Ruth and J.R. Sloan.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday April 13 at the brick yard pavilion at Independence Park in Gonzales with son-in-law Steve Scott officiating. Memorials may be made to the Gonzales Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship fund. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home of Gonzales.
