James Harold “Jim” Cunningham, 72, of Moulton, TX died August 21, 2016 at San Antonio Military Medical Center. Jim was born in Rosebud, Texas on April 19, 1944 to James Robert Cunningham and Opal Dockery Cunningham. Jim was a graduate of Rosebud High School. He honorably served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War as a combat photo journalist. Jim was a decorated war hero having received the Bronze Star for meritorious service. Jim married Dr. Debra Kay Brentzel, DVM on November 14, 1976 in San Marcos.

A journalist and newspaper publisher, Jim was awarded numerous awards in his field throughout his career.

He is survived by his wife, Debra; two daughters, Jena Parris of Mansfield, TX and Cristin Hughes of Sulphur Springs, TX; one granddaughter Jillian Parris of Mansfield; three sisters, Laverne Schendel of Pasadena, TX, Wanda Hernandez and Dorene Kelsey of Temple, TX; 17 nieces and nephews, and 27 great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2016 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home in Gonzales, TX. An inurnment service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2016 in Woodland Cemetery in Rosebud, TX. In lieu of flowers please send memorials donations to: Woodland Cemetery Association, Box 795, Rosebud, TX 76570; or The Fisher House Foundation, which provides housing to military families with hospitalized relatives. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday prior to the service in the funeral home. Services are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, Gonzales.
