Joan “JoAnn” Edna Machicek Johnson went to be with her heavenly Father on Aug. 6, 2017 at the age of 81 years and 1 week. She was born July 30, 1936 in Gonzales County, Texas, and was the oldest of 14 children. She married George Glenwood Johnson on Dec. 24, 1964, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents Frank Joseph Machicek and Willie Mae Briggs Machicek from Gonzales, Texas, her brother Jim Machicek, and sisters Diane Fesperman and Betty Mills.

JoAnn’s siblings left to cherish her memories are brothers Bill Machicek, David Machicek, Frank Wayne Machicek, John Machicek, Michael Machicek, Roger Machicek, and Eddie Machicek; and sisters Evelyn Brown, Janet Wilmut, and Sharon Pletcher. She was also survived by two loving and loyal friends Barbara Jones and Wanda Grimes.

JoAnn was never shy to share and tell about the love she had for her “three perfect angels” (her children), Glynette Thomas, Michael Johnson, and Sharon Bostick and husband Clay. JoAnn, also known as Granny is survived by six grandchildren Carl Richter and wife Melissa, Chasten Richter and wife Kelly, Dustin Johnson, Ashlee Bostick and fiancé Tanner Hill, Madison Bostick, and Kailey Johnson. She has four great grandsons Greysen, Ryan, Connor, and Asher Richter. Aunt Joanie was also adored by her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She loved to share anything she cooked and her door was always open to neighbors and friends. They would smell her delicious baked goodies like kolaches, homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, and many other amazing dishes from blocks away. She was known by her close friends as the Kolache Lady.

She enjoyed spending her time playing bingo and watching her favorite TV shows, especially “The Young and the Restless,” she was not to be disturbed between 11 and 12 during the week. She also loved listening to the gospel radio program on Sunday mornings and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 10, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas. Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor with a graveside burial service to follow at 2 p.m. at Harwood Cemetery located at North 2nd St, Harwood, Texas.
