Joel Nelson Lipscomb

Joel Nelson Lipscomb was born Dec. 20, 1923 in Gonzales and passed away Sept. 5, 2016 at his home in McKinney. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces in the European Theater during World War II, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters.

Joel was a graduate of Southwest Texas State College in 1951 and of the University of Houston in 1964. He worked as a research chemist and registered pharmacist and was a 50-year member of the Chemical Engineering Association. He was a lifelong Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Dell; sons, Derrell Glen and wife Alison of England and Joel Wade and wife Monica of McKinney; daughter-in-law, Palma of Georgia; daughters, Lisa Armstrong and husband John of Gonzales, Linda Menking of Gonzales and Sharon Block and husband Tom of Florida; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Iris Boothe and George Nelson Lipscomb of Gonzales; sisters, Dorothy Davis, Elizabeth Moffet and Florence Ridgeway; brother, Victor Hugo; and son, George Lipscomb.

A graveside military service will be held at the Masonic Cemetery in Gonzales on Oct. 1 at 2 p.m.
