Johanna “Joan” (Locke) Dreyer, 83, of Shiner, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 18 at her residence.

Funeral Services are under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner, Texas and will be held on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. at Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Shiner, Texas with Reverend Elaine Gomulka officiating. Interment will follow at Shiner City Cemetery. The Family will be at the Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. to greet friends. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. There will be a short visitation at the Church beginning at 1 p.m. with snacks and refreshments.

Joan was born on May 28, 1934 in Poteet, Texas. She was the daughter of Walter and Mary Rose (Mikolajczyk) Locke. As a teenager she managed her family nursery in Poteet while completing her diploma at Poteet High School and later went on to take business courses at San Antonio Business College. She worked as a bookkeeper for Randolph Air Force Base, Fine Silver and Cen-co. She raised her daughters in San Antonio and later moved to Chicago for 25 years. Joan married Buford Dreyer on March 18, 1982 in Waelder, Texas. She enjoyed dancing, shopping and going out to eat with Buford. She was the one who was always taking still photographs and videos of the family and of her travels. She enjoyed working in her garden and cooking for her family. Joan was a compassionate person who enjoyed caring for others. She really adored her daughters, granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

Joan is survived by her husband; Buford Dreyer, two daughters; Alexandria “Sandy” Klatter and her husband, Michael of San Antonio, Texas, Susan Mann of Gonzales, Texas, one sister; Anna Mae Scheel and her husband, Jerome of Garden Ridge, Texas, three grandchildren; Crystal Shimek and her husband, Dustin of Shiner, Texas, Priscilla Middlebrook of Luling, Texas, Danielle Garcia of Charlotte, Texas, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; Walter and Mary Rose Locke, two sisters; Caroline Wilkins, and Mathilda Neuman.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Dreyer will be; Dustin Shimek, Martin Shimek, Donnie Patek, Jene Dreyer, Billy Polasek, and Kenneth Adamek.
