Joyce Marie Schellenberg

Joyce Marie Schellenberg, 87, of Harwood passed away Friday, June 5, 2020. She was born Oct. 31, 1932, the daughter of Tom and Ruth Willard Edwards. She attended school in Harwood and graduated with the class of 1950 from Gonzales High School. She married Dannie Schellenberg on Feb. 5, 1950, in Gonzales, a marriage which lasted for 67 years until his passing in 2018.

She was a very dedicated member of the First Methodist Church. She began her career as a telephone operator with General Telephone Company in Gonzales and worked there until their offices relocated. She worked many years for the DuBose family at Continental Produce. Joyce retired after many years as a dispatcher with the Gonzales Police Department. After retirement she continued work as a caregiver.

She enjoyed bingo and domino parties along with square dancing with Dannie. She will be remembered for her baking and jelly making, bus trips to Louisiana and her love of traveling. She was quite the shopper and had the knack of finding the best garage sales throughout Gonzales. Her most treasured times were spent with her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Debbie Schmidt and husband H.C. Jr. “Bubba”; son Dale Schellenberg and wife Sherri all of Gonzales; brother Bobby Edwards and wife Sandra of The Woodlands; grandchildren Stacy Harding and husband Darren of New Braunfels, H.C. Schmidt III and wife Kristine of Geronimo, Alecia Bartel and husband Richard of Waco, Valorie Daniel of Wrightsboro and Chelsea Quintilla and husband J.D. of Seguin. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren Hayden Harding, McKenzie Hodges, River and Truitt Schmidt, Remy, Kody, Andy, Tory and Beau Bartel, Reagan and Easton Daniel, Averi and Tessa Marie Quintilla; nephew Andy Edwards, and niece Cindie Edwards.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her brother James Edwards. Visitation was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 9. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Pennington officiating. Interment is at the Harwood Cemetery. Pallbearers include H.C. Schmidt III, Richard Bartel, Darren Harding, Johnie Halliburton, Bobby Halliburton and Andy Edwards.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice of charities. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, CDC guidelines will be followed for the safety of everyone including social distancing and facial covering.
