Joye Marie Taylor Walker, 89, longtime resident of Yoakum, Texas passed away June 17 at Hospice of South Texas, Dornburg Center of Compassion in Victoria.

Born June 29, 1928 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Mary Murphy & Robert Daniel Taylor Sr., Joye grew up in a loving Christian home in Quanah, Texas. After high school she married her sweetheart, Carl, and enjoyed 61 years of marriage before his death.

Joye was active in Austin Street Baptist Church, First Baptist Church and also supported the New Life Baptist Church. She retired from the state of Texas after 30 years where she worked in the Department of Human Resources. She volunteered with the local Food Bank of Yoakum for 23 years, Accolade Hospice, and Stevens Nursing Home.

Joye was welcomed into Heaven by her husband, Carl; her parents; sisters Juanita Shires & Alta Beth Muse; and brothers Donald & R.D.; sister-in-law Maxine Autrey (Dan); brothers-in-law George Walker (Peggy), Loyd Walker and Floyd Daniel. Joye will be missed but joyfully remembered by son David and wife Jane; sister Sandra Kaye Steinmann & husband Edwin; brother Earl Taylor; sisters-in-law Ruth Walker, Geneva Daniel; brothers-in-law Garland Walker (Linda) and Rayford Walker (Avalee); other family members and community friends as well as her church family.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 19 from 5-7 p.m. at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 20 at 10 a.m. at Austin Street Baptist Church with Pastor Hollas Hoffman officiating. A private entombment will follow at Yoakum Restland Cemetery Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Edwin Steinmann, Phillip Steinmann, James Pohl, Richard Clark, Douglas McClary, Pete Tompkins, James Leist and Phillip Schwab. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Murray, Fred Siecko, Don Nobles, Claude Pohler, Doug Ramsay, Zac Webb, and Travis Wagner.

Memorials honoring Joye may be made to the Local Food Bank of Yoakum, one of her churches, Hospice of South Texas, Dornburg Center of Compassion in Victoria, or the charity of your choice.
