Juan John “Curly” Herrera, 96, of Gonzales, Texas passed away on Saturday, March 24 at the Texan Nursing & Rehab in Gonzales, Texas.

Funeral Mass is under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales, Texas and will be held on Thursday, March 29 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gonzales, Texas with Father Paul Raaz officiating. Interment will follow at Saint James Catholic Cemetery in Gonzales, Texas. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Buffington Funeral Home with Deacon John Klapuch officiating.

Juan was born on May 26, 1921 in Gonzales, Texas. He was the son of Jose and Martina (Lera) Herrera. He married Josephine Gonzales on Nov. 15, 1941 in Gonzales, Texas. When he was younger, Juan liked to play pool and watch sports on TV. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan and he enjoyed watching them play on TV. As he got older, and retired, he would go walking for exercise. Juan worked for the Gonzales Courthouse and Kasper Wireworks for many years.

Juan is survived by his wife; Josephine Herrera of Gonzales, Texas, two sons; Rudy Herrera and his wife, Maria of Gonzales, Texas, Roland Herrera and his wife, Andrea of Austin, Texas, three daughters; Dora Rosales and her husband, Miguel of Austin, Texas, Janie Ortiz and her husband, Isaac of Austin, Texas, Josie Aguilar and her husband, Victor of Corpus Christi, Texas, 28 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Juan was preceded in death by his parents; Jose and Martina Herrera, two sons; Joe Herrera, John Herrera Jr., one grandson; Joe Herrera Jr., two sisters; Theodora Navarro, and Bertha Herrera.

Pallbearers for Mr. Herrera will be; Eric Herrera, Rudy Joseph Herrera, Lawrence Ortiz, Michael Rosales, Frankie Herrera, Roland Herrera, Jr.
