Junior High ‘A’ teams remain unbeaten in district

The Gonzales Junior High ‘A’ football teams remain unbeaten in district after both squads knocked off Giddings last week.
7th Grade A takes down Giddings 12-6
Carlos Verastegui scored the first touchdown on a 64-yard run. With the game tied 6-6, with two minutes left, Joe Canales hit Mason Navejar with a 32 yard pass and a 30 yard pass. Joe Canales scored the game winning touchdown with 20 seconds left on a one-yard run. Offensive players of the game were Joe Canales and Mason Navejar. Defensive players of the game were Russell Thomas and Colbie Pullin. The 7th Grade "A" Team remain undefeated on the year with a 6-0 record, 3-0 in district.
8th Grade A team defeats Giddings 28-18
Cesar Matamoros scored a 22-yard touchdown in Gonzales’ win over Giddings. Brady Barefiled scored the two-point conversion pass from Brett Breitschopf. Breck Eleby scored three touchdowns, from 51 yards, 42 yards and 12 yards out. Coaches gave credit to the offensive linemen “for their outstanding block,” according to reports. Coaches named Jacob Bakken, Dustin Stevens, Treyton James, Sebastian San Miguel, Jaylen Miller, Jessie Virgil, Scotty Upshaw, Josiah Contreras and Weston Pape for their efforts. Defensive player of the game was Dustin Stevens. The Apaches are now 3-0 in district play.
