8th Grade Boys B take down Cuero

The 8th grade boys’ B team took down Cuero 25-24 last week.

“The boys played a great game that was close all the way through,” coaches said. Leading the way in scoring was Bryson Greathouse with 12 points. Weldon Holub had four points and a block. Meanwhile, Diego Martinez, Brayden Watson and Corey House had two points each. Cody Perkins added one point to the stat sheet.

8th Grade Orange downed against Cuero

The Gonzales Apaches 8th grade boys’ Orange lost to Cuero 41-36. Luis Hernandez scored nine points, including three three-pointers. He was named offensive player of the game. Meanwhile, Christian Juarez also scored nine points with one three. Devin Cantu, the team’s defensive player of the game, scored seven points with a three pointer. Trevor Mayberry scored four points, Coby Mathis scored four points, Christian Almaguer scored two points and Thomas Rodriguez added a free throw.

7th grade squads sweep Cuero

Both the Apaches 7th grade basketball teams overcame halftime deficits to beat their rivals, the Cuero Gobblers. The 7th grade White team won 11-5, with Jon Tejada score four, Abel Martinez and Sebastian San Miguel and Garrett Stevens with two points each and Issac Villanueva with one.

The 7th grade Orange team won 39-35, with Breck Eleby leading the way with 16 points. Xavier Aguayo had 14 points, Jacob Bakken had four and Jaylen Miller and Josiah Contreras had two points.

7th grade girls come up short against Cuero

The Lady Apaches came up just short as they lost a “very aggressive game” according to coaches. Chrisiana Conley had six points while Destiny Voigt had one for the 7th grade White team.

Meanwhile, the 7th grade Orange team lost 24-20 to Cuero. It was as “hard-fought matchup” as the Lady Apaches “played very good defense and hustled each possession.”

Audrey Martinez led the team in scoring with eight points. Other scorers include Delaini-Seger Gordon with four points, Stefanie Gonzales with three, Trinity Barr and Emma Hernandez with two each and Jossalyn Estrada with one.

8th grade girls dropped by rivals

The 8th grade Lady Apaches took on Cuero last Thursday. Both games were “very intense,” coaches said, “and had the crowd on the edges of their seats. Although the girls did not receive the win, they competed very well.”

The White team lose 36-31. Meray Molina had a game-high 22 points. Kaitlyn Taylor added three points while Jamisha James, Stephanie Reyna and Alicia Camarillo each had two. Molina was named player fo the game.

Meanwhile, the Orange team lost 36-22. Sam Barnick and Madison Pirkle led the team with seven points each. Hayley Sample added six while Abby Hicks and Trinity Aguero each had one point. Players of the game were Barnick, Sample, Pirkle and Peyton Ruddock.

Junior high boys take on Navarro

On Dec. 1, Gonzales Junior High 7th and 8th grade basketball faced Navarro. 7th grade B team lost with a score of 34-7. 7th grade A team also lost 41-34 with Bret Eleby as the high scorer of the game, making a total of 12 points

8th grade B team also faced Navarro and had a loss of 32-4.

8th grade A team lost as well with a score of 40-22. Trevor Mayberry was the lead scorer with 10 points.
