GJHS 8th grade beats Brooks Academy

The 8th grade boys basketball team had a “well-played game on both sides of the ball,” according to Coach Bryan Pruett, beating San Antonio Brooks Academy 30-12. Carlos Martinez was the player of the game, setting the tempo on both sides finishing with 14 points. Tyler Wilson had a break-out game with 12 points.

Rounding out the scoring was Aiden Gomez and Demitrius Segura with three points each, Rocky Gallegos and Adan Cabrerra with two points each and T.J. Riojas with one point.

Waelder junior high overwhelms Round Top-Carmine

The Wildcat junior high boys’ teams beat Round Top-Carmine 63-8.

“All boys played very well together,” coach Richard King said. “The boys dominated the court with steals and fast breaks.”

Jayden led the team in scoring with 19 points, followed by Luis with 13, Julian with 11, Stephen with 10, Roman with eight and Eric with two. The next game will be against Moulton at home on Jan. 6 at 6 p.m.

GJHS 7A knocks off Brooks Academy

The Gonzales 7th grade A boys team beat San Antonio Brooks Academy 31-28. Dylan Hunt and Gavin Lekgega were the offensive players of the game. Lekgega hit a game-winning three pointer with 17 seconds left to give GJHS the one-point lead. Hunt hit two free throws with two seconds left to help seal the game.

Hunt ended the night with 16 points while Lekgega had eight points. Other scorers include Calvin Collier with three points, R.J. Coplin with two points and Isaac Gonzales and Jermane Upshaw each with one point.

GJHS 7A girls overrun Brooks Academy

The Gonzales 7th grade A girls team drubbed San Antonio Brooks Academy 40-8 on Monday. Leading scorer was Bella Aguera with 25 points. Kiley Schwausch added 10 points while Sandra Cochado had five points. Defensive players of the game were Kiley Schwausch and Scarlette Cerda.
