8B boys earn first victory of the season

Gonzales 8B boys earned their first victory of the season on Dec. 17 knocking off the Brooks Academy Bengals 33-28. Davion Cardenas led the Apaches with 13 points followed by Corben Wolff with 10 points, Noe Garcia with four and Gabriel Davidson, Tyrann Gonzales and Luke Avant with two points each.

8A boys out-shot by streaking Bengals

Gonzales 8A lost to a “hot shooting Bengals team,” according to the coach’s report. Jorge Amador led the scoring with 15 points followed by Angel Martinez with 10 points, Carlos Verastegui with seven, Ryan Cantu with five, Josh Esparza with four, Colbie Pullin with three and Mason Navejar with one point.

7B boys knocks off Cuero

Gonzales 7B boys team took down the Cuero Gobblers 28-18 on Dec. 13. Cree Stowers was the leading scorer with eight points. Other scorers include Kamren Leal with six, Parker Storey and Jessiah Barr with five each, Demetrius Segura with three and Landon Holub with one point. Gonzales 7B is now 2-1 this season.

7A boys lose close to the Gobblers

Gonzales 7A boys lost to Cuero 40-36 on Dec. 13. Max Castillo was leading scorer with 12 points followed by Joshua Gaither with eight, Carlos Martinez with six, Tyler Riojas with four and Rockey Gallegos and William Wilson with three points each. Gonzales 7A dropped to 1-2 for the season.

8B boys play tough in loss to Cuero

Gonzales 8B boys basketball team had a “hard fought game against Cuero,” according to the coach’s report on Dec. 13. Davion Cardenas and Corben Wolff each had six points, Noe Garcia added five points while Gabriel Davidson, Aiden Hernandez and John Rivera each had two points.

8A boys use defense to beat Cuero

The Apaches 8A team had “a great defensive effort leading them to a victory past the Gobblers,” coaches said in a 53-49 win over Cuero on Dec. 13. Carlos Verastegui was the leading score with 19 points. “Carlos was also all over the floor on defense,” according to the coach’s report. Angel Martinez added 12 points while Jorge Amador had 10, Colbie Pullin and Mason Navejar had four and Ryan Cantu and Josh Esparza each had two points.
