Gonzales 8th grade sweeps Cuero
On Monday, Oct. 28, the Gonzales 8th grade B team defeated Cuero in two sets. The scores were 25-23 and 25-15. Mammarella scored eight points, Schroeder scored 10 points, Lowery had eight points, Guerra seven points, Avant three points, and Hernandez had awesome night serving up 14 points (11 points in a row in the first set, to come back and win the game!) The B team is now 6-2 in district.
The 8th grade A team also defeated Cuero in two sets. The scores were 25-18 and 25-14. Sample scored 10 points, Breitschopf scored seven points, Reyna had 11 points, Lester five points, Ploeger had six points, and Clack scored four points. The A team is now 5-3 in district.
Gonzales 7A comes up short against Gobblers
On Monday, Oct 28, the Gonzales Lady Apache 7th Grade A Team played an outstanding game but came up short and was unfortunately defeated by Cuero in three sets, Cuero 25-9, Gonzales 25-17, and Cuero 15-12. Top scorers were Peyton Harkey with 21 points, Bella Aguero with nine points and Peyton Springfield and Kilee Schwausch both with six points. Defensive players of the game were Sarah Padilla, Bella Aguero, Krissy Hodges and Mariela Grifaldo. Way to work hard and great teamwork. Gonzales 7th grade teams lose to La Vernia
The Gonzales 7th grade "B team" lost to La Vernia 12-0.
Meanwhile, the 7th grade "A team" lost to an undefeated La Vernia 14-12. R.J. Coplin and Emiliano Lopez were offensive players of the game. Coplin caught a 72-yard touchdown pass and a six-yard touchdown pass from Lopez. David Dubose was defensive player of the game. The "A team" record is now 4-2.
Gonzales 8th grade teams split with La Vernia
The 8th grade "B team" beat La Vernia 12-0. Edgar Esquivel was defensive player of the game. He had a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown. Damian Hernandez was the offensive player of the game. He scored a 46-yard touchdown run.
The 8th grade "A team" lost to La Vernia 22-18. T.J. Riojas and Kamren Leal were offensive players of the game. Riojas scored two touchdowns on runs of 12 and six yards. Leal scored a two-yard touchdown run. Davonte Smith and Rocky Gallegos each had a couple of good runs. Blake Wright caught a 42-yard pass from Riojas to set up the first touchdown. Riojas made a nice diving catch late in the game. Blake Wright was defensive player of the game. Kaden Deleon had the big hit of the night. The "A team" suffered its first loss of the season. Their record is now 5-1.
