Kenneth Alvin Malatek passed away peacefully Aug. 1 at Hospice Brazos Valley in Bryan, Texas.

Kenneth was born in Gonzales, Texas on June 29, 1939 to Alvin and Mildred Malatek. He was a graduate of Gonzales High School, Class of 1957. He attended South West Texas State (Texas State) on a football scholarship and lettered all three years that he played football. Vice president Lyndon Johnson gave the commencement speech at his college graduation ceremony in May 1961. He later received a Master’s Degree, also from SWT. Kenneth worked as a coach, educator and administrator for 31 years. His greatest passion was working with and educating young people.

He spent his leisure time enjoying his family along with golf, tennis and running. He was a lifelong Democrat and lived a life of service to his family, his community and his church.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Nonadel Schweda Malatek; his son Greg Malatek and wife Shelly; his son Rex Malatek and wife Jennifer; his daughter Jessica Reynolds and husband Gary; his grandchildren Lauren, Jacob, Garrett, Hank, Haley and William Kenneth; his brother Kevin Malatek and wife Joyce; nieces and nephews Johnna Pridgeon, Shane Schweda, Reagan Tully, Lindsay Chapman, Hunter Malatek.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 18 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Gonzales, Texas.
