Lady Apache powerlifter advances to state

Two Gonzales Lady Apache powerlifters traveled to compete in the regional meet, with one advancing to the state meet.

Crystal Garcia competing in the 181-pound weight class placed sixth at the meet with her combined lifts of 850 pounds. Garcia lifted 365 pounds in squat, in bench press and in dead lift. Her score qualified her for the state meet. Taking top spots at the regional meet and qualifying for the state meet in that weight class were Rio Hondo’s Anyssa Barrientes with a total of 925 pounds, Crystal City’s Giana Rios with a total of 920, Crystal City’s Destiny Sepulveda with a total of 875, Carrizo Springs’ Ariana Camarillo with 850 and Navarro’s Kayla De Leon with 850.

Sydney Clack also competed at the regional meet with lifts of 310 in squat, 150 in bench press and 295 in dead lift to total to 755. She placed eighth in the 259-pound weight class, outside of qualifications. Taking top spots at the meet were Raymondville’s Karina Martinez with a total of 1,200 pounds, Crystal City’s Luz Garcia with a total of 975 pounds and Hidalgo Early College’s Melani Flores with a total of 935 pounds.

The state meet takes place in Waco from May 15-16.
