Lady Apache qualifies for state lifting meet

CARRIZO SPRINGS — The state powerlifting meet will have at least one Gonzales representative as Khelsea Cray qualified for the meet after taking fourth place in her weight class over the weekend.

The Lady Apaches traveled to Carrizo Springs, with Cray, Cristal Garcia and Sydney Clack participating in the meet. Cray placed fourth in the 148-pound weight class, lifting totals of 330 in squat, 150 in bench press and 355 in dead lift to total to 835 pounds.

Rio Hondo’s Andrea Ramirez placed first with her total of 1050 pounds while Crystal City’s Kianna Lara took second with 890 and Zapata’s Andrea Montes placed third with 840 pounds.

Garcia placed 10th with her splits of 295-120-330 to total to 745 pounds in the 165-pound weight class. Taking top spot was Crystal City’s Kiana Lopez with 950 pounds.

Clack bombed out in the 259-pound weight class.

The girls’ state meet takes place in Waco where Cray will be the Apache representative. The meet is from March 16-17.
