Lady Apache runner, Luling boys team advance to state meet

CORPUS CHRISTI — After competing at the Region IV cross-country meet in Corpus Christi, several area athletes will be making a trip to the UIL state cross-country meet next week.

Gonzales Apache senior Veronica Moreno placed seventh overall, finishing with a time of 12:17.88 in the Class 4A race. Moreno will be Gonzales’ only state qualifier this season.

In Class 3A, the Luling Eagles placed second as a team, advancing to state. Edwin Zamudio finished first in the region with a time of 16:24.53.

The Lady Eagles also competed, placing 17th as a team. They were led by sophomore Gimena Olvera, who finished with a time of 13:58.98.

In Class 1A, senior Miguel Morales was the long representative of the Waelder Wildcats. He placed 26th overall with a time of 19:36.38.

The state qualifiers are set to compete at the UIL Cross-Country state meet. The race at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock takes place on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Luling boys are scheduled to compete at 11:20 a.m. in the Boys Conference 3A race. Moreno competes at noon in the Girls Conference 4A race.
