LA VERNIA — After playing a game last Wednesday due to inclement weather on Tuesday, the Gonzales Lady Apaches (3-4) traveled to La Vernia for a scheduled District 27-4A game against the Lady Bears (4-2). The Lady Apaches would lose in a tight game, 8-6, dropping back down to fourth place in the district behind Wimberley (5-1), La Vernia (4-2) and Navarro (4-3).

After taking an early two-run lead, La Vernia scored six in the bottom of the second and third innings, forcing the Lady Apaches to play from behind throughout the rest of the game. Down 8-4, Gonzales scored two in the seventh to cut the lead to two, but ultimately lost the game 8-6.

Leading the way in hits was Carla Torres who went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run with three RBIs. Jaycie Burton went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Karina Vara went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Morgan Mason went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Skylea Tatsch went 1-for-4.

The Lady Apaches have their final district game of the season at home as they take on Wimberley tonight, with first pitch at 7 p.m.

Gonzales needs a win to improve their district standing. A loss today leaves the Lady Apaches in fourth, having to take on the District 28-4A champion in the bi-district round of playoffs.
