Lady Apaches lose road district tilt

GERONIMO — The Gonzales Lady Apaches (0-3) dropped their third district game of the season, losing (23-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-11) to the #18 Navarro Lady Panthers (4-0).

After coming away with a close first set, the Lady Apaches were overwhelmed in the second, starting the set in a 12-4 hole. Down 15-10, Navarro would score five straight to go up 20-10, eventually winning the 25-14.

The third set was closer, with both teams tied at 10 early on with scores coming from an ace by Alleyna Treviño, kills from Rachel Staggs and Hayley Sample. The back-and-forth game continued late, with Gonzales down just 20-19 before giving up five straight points to the hosts to lose the third set.

In the fourth set, Navarro was up 12-9 before finishing the game on a 13-2 run, knocking off the Lady Apaches in four sets.

Gonzales’ three district losses came against two state-ranked teams, #6 La Vernia and #18 Navarro, as well as their rivals the Cuero Gobblers. The Lady Apaches host Poteet (1-2) on Friday and travel to Pleasanton (2-1) on Tuesday. Both games are set for 6 p.m.
