Lady Apaches win tiebreaker

LULING — The Gonzales Lady Apaches have been plagued with key injuries and have had to start their younger volleyball players late in the district season. After dropping to 1-5, tied with Austin Eastside Memorial, both teams traveled to Luling Friday night to determine which would come out District 27-4A in fourth place and off to the bi-district round of the state volleyball playoffs.

Gonzales came out on top, winning 25-22, 25-22, 25-20.

The team was led in kills by Cameron Kluting who had seven. Analise Longoria had five kills and Alex James had three. Rachel Staggs came away with seven assists and four aces while Kiley Allen had six assists and three aces. Kayle Martinez led with seven digs while Morgan Mason had six. Chelsie Hastings came away with a solo block.

The Lady Apaches will play Fredericksburg tonight for their first playoff game since 2011. They play at South San High School in San Antonio at 6 p.m.
