Lady Cardinals continue win streak

The Shiner St. Paul Lady Cardinals had an impressive week of volleyball, knocking off their rivals at home, winning the Castle Hills tournament in San Antonio over the weekend, then taking down Class 4A La Grange on the road to continue their win streak.
Lady Cards top rivals in five sets
Shiner St. Paul came back down two sets to one, besting their rivals, the Hallettsville Sacred Heart Indianettes on Sept. 6, (25-11, 20-25, 24-26, 25-22, 15-11). Gracey Novosad came away with a team-leading 16 kills, 11 digs and two aces. Delynn Pesek had 11 kills, seven digs and one ace. Hope Kapavik led with four aces, adding 10 digs to her stat line. Christine Wagner had 38 assists, a team-leading 19 digs, four kills and one ace.
St. Paul goes 5-1 in tournament victory
From Sept. 7-8, the Shiner St. Paul Lady Cardinals played in the Castle Hills tournament in San Antonio, losing just once in the two-day competition.
During pool play on Friday, St. Paul beat San Marcos Homeschool (25-23, 25-22), lost to Temple Central Texas Christian School (28-25, 25-19) and beat Legacy Christian Academy (25-14, 25-14). On Saturday, the team beat Boerne Geneva (26-28, 25-16, 15-12) and Christian School at Castle Hills (25-18, 25-21) before knocking off Temple Central Texas School (21-25, 25-22, 15-7) for first place.
St. Paul wins in tough five-set game over La Grange
Shiner St. Paul traveled to La Grange, beating the Lady Leopards (17-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-27, 16-14). Top players include: Paige Brown four kills, one block, one dig; Aspen Flach 11 digs; Trinity Garza 17 digs, one ace; Riley Johnson nine digs, one ace; Hope Kapavik 16 digs, one ace; Gracey Novosad 11 kills, one block, 21 digs, two aces; Delynn Pesek seven kills, five digs, two aces; Cameron Pesek three kills, two blocks; Mallory Pokluda six kills, one block, five digs; Christine Wagner two kills, two blocks, 23 assists, 17 digs, two aces.
The JV team and freshmen team both lost in two sets.
The Lady Cardinals are set to travel to Victoria to face St. Joseph tonight, Sept. 13, at 6:30 p.m.
