Lady Mustangs drop home district tilt

NIXON — A tough second half proved to be the difference for the Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs (0-4) who lost 56-27 at home against the Stockdale Lady Brahmas (1-3).

Down 8-4 by the end of the first quarter, the Lady Mustangs came within one by the end of the half, outscoring Stockdale 13-10 in the second quarter. Stockdale shot out to a 19-6 advantage in the third and a 19-4 advantage in the fourth frame to win 56-27.

Faith Pullin led the team in scoring with nine points, adding five rebounds, one block and two steals to her stat sheet. Maggie Mendez was the assist leader, scoring three points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals. Katy Tschoepe led in rebounds, scoring three points, seven rebounds and two steals. Chaelee Mejia added five points, two assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Nixon-Smiley travels to Yoakum (3-1) on Friday to take on the Lady Bulldogs, with tipoff scheduled at 6:15 p.m. They host Marion on Tuesday, Jan. 9, with tipoff scheduled at 6:15 p.m.
