NIXON — Knocking down a state-ranked team in Goliad was going to be tough. Trying to knock them down while the Tigerettes are making most of their three pointers?

Even tougher.

After a tight 15-10 first quarter, the Tigerettes would go on a big runs, culminating to a huge 30-12 second quarter to go up 45-22 against Nixon-Smiley in the half. The Lady Mustangs were able to curb Goliad’s scoring in the third, allowing just 13 to their seven points. But Nixon-Smiley was outscored 21-11 in the fourth, losing the game by 39 points.

The loss drops the Lady Mustangs to 8-3 in District 27-3A while elevating Goliad to 11-0, officially making the Tigerettes the number one seed out the district. As Karnes City if locked in at fourth, Nixon-Smiley will be scoreboard watching when Goliad takes on Poth to see if the Lady Mustangs can fight for second out the district as they take on Bloomington on the road tonight.
