Lady Wildcats lose game, starter

MOULTON — Things went from bad to worst in the fourth quarter in the Waelder Lady Wildcats’ 71-15 loss against the state-ranked Moulton Kittens last Friday, Jan. 4.

Losing 57-12 early in the fourth, senior starter Brejhai Montgomery went down with an apparent leg injury, forcing Waelder to finish the game out with a much younger and inexperienced squad. Moulton finished the game on a 14-3 run to win by 56 points.

Montgomery accounted for seven of the 15 points scored. Sophomore Raven Rodriguez scored six points, two shots behind the three-point arc.

The Lady Cats were limited to four points in the first half, losing 42-4 against Moulton who are currently ranked fourth in Class 1A girls hoops.

Waelder travels to take on McDade on Friday, with a scheduled tipoff of 6 p.m. before their bye next Tuesday.
