Laura Lee Pettus Neighbors, 66, of Gonzales, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020. Laura was born April 6, 1953 the sixth of six children to Samuel Cobb Pettus and Lucylee Wilson Pettus. She was a graduate of Gonzales High School Class of 1971 and a member of the Gonzales First Baptist Church. Laura married Allen DeWitt Neighbors on Aug. 6, 1971 just a few months and graduation in the Gonzales First Baptist Church.

Laura worked at the Lynn Theater in Gonzales starting as an attendant and working her way up to manager of the theater, Later, Laura clerked at a convenience store before moving with her family to Lubbock in 1989 where she continued working in convenience stores as a clerk and in management positions. Laura had a natural gift of conversation, a gift that certainly brought comfort and joy to patrons of the stores in which she worked. She faithfully worked at her jobs all while caring for her husband and six children.

Laura enjoyed trips to the coast with her family, sitting quietly while crocheting and enjoying foreign films, especially Korean dramas. She dearly loved to be surrounded by family during the holidays and feverishly preparing enough food to feed and an army. The latter is of course just an expression, but truly Laura welcomed not just family but friends of her family and loving them as if they were her own. Laura was truly a loving, giving, selfless woman of God. Traits that were instilled in her by her doting parents Sam and Lucylee. Family was family, and friends of family were family too. All families have tiffs now and then, the Pettus family is no exception, but within the Pettus household love and the respect for family always won the day, Laura raised her family within the same paradigm. Love always prevails.

Laura Lee Pettus Neighbors is survived by her adoring family, daughter and son-in-law, Melodie Delane and John Watkins of California, sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Darren Neighbors of Converse, Matthew Daniel and Andrea Neighbors of Lubbock, Marshall Daylan Neighbors of Gonzales, Macklan DeWitt Neighbors and Krystian Caballero of Gonzales, Maxwell Denton and Frankie Neighbors of Shiner, sisters, Martha Patricia Caraway of Nixon, Virginia Kathryn and Johnnie Ray Tidwell of Gonzales, brothers, Samuel David Pettus of Luling and her twin brother, Harry Lee Pettus of Gonzales, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, William “Buck” Pettus.
