Lester Lee Adams Jr. passed away on Sunday, Sept. 10, after a long battle with COPD. Lee was born in Dec. 30, 1939 in Yates Center, Kansas.

His parents were Lester Lee Adams Sr. and Genevieve “Swede” Adams, both are deceased. Lee was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Gonzales, later belonging to Austin Street Baptist Church in Yoakum. Lee began his oilfield career at the age of 17 on a workover rig. After college and his short auto-racing career, he returned to the oilfield, becoming a drilling fluids engineer for Halliburton and others.

He traveled to 21 different countries, mostly South America. He engineered on “helicopter locations” in the Colombian and Peruvian rainforest locations for seven years. Later, he became a senior drilling foreman “company man” as a consultant.

Lee did not hunt and fish, his passion was racing. He owned race horses in Peru, South American and Lafayette, Louisiana. He dirt-track modified auto racing with his son around Texas.

Survivors include his wife Elsa Guadalupe Gamboa de Adams, who he asked to marry the second day he met her (she said no, but later agreed, it took three months), son Scott Eric Adams and fiancé Samantha W. Zumwalt, brother Reno Kent and sister-in-law Angie, a host of fantastic in-laws, nieces and nephews in Queretaro, Mazatlan and Monterrey Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

Arrangements for a memorial service will be made at a later date. Instead of flowers, just take a friend to lunch.
