Let’s send two vets to Washington D.C. to see the WWII and Vietnam memorial

He was a tail gunner on a B-17 bomber over Germany in World War II.

His son served on an aircraft carrier off the coast of Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

Now we’d like to send both of them to Washington D.C. to see the Memorials honoring their service.

William Berger and his son Bobby both served in our nation’s military during two separate wars. William Berger was a tail gunner on a B-17 during World War II, and when the 92-year old veteran asked what he would like to accomplish at the latter stages of his life, he responded, “I’d like to go see the World War II Memorial. I’ve never been to Washington D.C.”

His son Bobby enlisted in the United States Navy, and joined in the seminal year of 1968. Upon completion of basic training, he was assigned to the Navy aircraft carrier USS Bennington. The Bennington saw duty off the coast of Vietnam for a year from 1968 to 1969.

Now, we would like to send Andy to see the Vietnam Memorial and to accompany his aging father as well.

The Gonzales Inquirer is trying to help defray the costs of sending the Bergers to Washington in late October of this year.

If you would like to donate, please send a check to the Gonzales Inquirer at PO Box 616, Gonzales, Texas. Please denote that the contribution is for the Washington DC Memorial Fund.
