Library receives art donation

In honor of his late wife Vickie, Rex Bushong donated an original pencil-drawn sketch of the last stand at the Alamo to Robert Lee Brothers Jr. Memorial Library. The ornate drawing was done by San Angelo artist James Robertson in 1986. The piece will join the large number of other Texas memorabilia the Bushong’s have donated to the library.

Though Rex was unable to make the donation in person, friends of the Bushong’s Carol Eakman and Mellinda Nolen donated the piece on behalf of him. Vickie Bushong is the namesake of the Vickie Bushong Memorial Collection at Robert Lee Brothers Jr. Memorial Library. The Bushong Collection is the largest collection of original documents from the Texas Revolution Era on permanent display.

On top of drawing donated to the library, Rex also recently donated a rare lithograph of Former Republic of Texas President Sam Houston. The print is one of three known to exist. The other two reside in the Smithsonian Institute and the Library of Congress. To see the Vickie Bushong Memorial Collection in full visit the Robert Lee Brothers Jr. Memorial Library at 301 Saint Joseph St.
