GONZALES — Local bakers have each picked a non-profit organization they will represent in the very first Scott Dierlam State Farm Pie Contest.

According to Sara Carrizales, event organizer, Dierlam's office has put together the pie contest to bring the community together and to raise awareness and give something back to several local non-profits.

Carrizales said word went out that the contest needed bakers and 10 responded. Each baker has since chosen the non-profit their pie would represent.

The entries are: Anchor Club, Trudy Dierlam; Boy Scouts, Carolyn Mikesh; GISD Education Foundation, Dolores Siegel; Gonzales EMS, Crissy O'Neal; Gonzales Healthcare Foundation, John Lamprecht; Gonzales Public Library, Savay Sexton; Gonzales Senior Citizen Association, Barbara Brzozowski; Hospital Auxillary, Kennon Brunkenhoefer; Norma's House, Debbie Toliver; and Silent Santa, Drew Nidey.

The pies are to be judged, by local judges, based on appearance, crust flavor and filling flavor. The first-place pie wins $500 for the non-profit chosen by the baker. All other entries will each receive $50 for the selected non-profit. In the event of a tie, Scott Dierlam will be the tiebreaker.

Pies will arrive at State Farm at 11:30 a.m. The pies will be labeled as to not reveal the baker to the judges. Judges will arrive at noon. During the judging representatives from the non-profits will speak briefly about the organization's community efforts. After the judging, the pies will be sliced and served.
