GONZALES — A local man was jailed after police said he was caught with crack cocaine and synthetic marijuana, and that he had a warrant for his arrest on another drug-related charge.

On June 23, Sgt. J.D. Holt was informed that a car was being driven in the 1100 block of Sarah Dewitt, and that its owner had a suspended driver’s license, Capt. Allen Taylor said. Holt pulled the vehicle over in the 900 block of Klein St. and noticed the car’s owner was in the passenger seat. The officer identified the driver as Jason Daqwan Barefield, 21, of Gonzales.

A background check on Barefield revealed he had a warrant for his arrest out of Gonzales County on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Barefield was subsequently arrested, Taylor said.

A search of Barefield led to the discovery of a substance that was believed to be crack cocaine. Synthetic marijuana was also found, Taylor said.

Barefield was taken to Gonzales County Jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
