Local jailed for drug possession

GONZALES — A local man was arrested after police said they caught him with meth and weed.

On Aug. 31, Sgt. J.D. Holt saw a car driving south in the 1800 block of St. Joseph St. change lanes without signaling, and pulled the driver over in the 400 block of Dunning St., Capt. Allen Taylor reported. Holt identified the driver as Dustin Shane Padgett, 32, of Gonzales.

Officers searched Padgett and found meth as well as a usable amount of marijuana. The meth was discovered in a “hide-a-key” container, Taylor said.

Padgett was arrested and taken to Gonzales County Jail. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 more than 1 gram less than 4 grams, unlawful use of a criminal instrument and possession of marijuana.
