Local man arrested for assault

GONZALES — A local man was arrested after police said he assaulted a woman after barging into her home.

On Aug. 14, the Gonzales Police Department received a report of a burglary of a habitation by assault which occurred in the 300 block of Highway 90A, Capt. Allen Taylor reported. The offense was reported to have taken place at 6:50 p.m. Aug. 11.

Police said the man pushed his way into his ex-girlfriend’s house after an argument and assaulted her. While interviewing the victim, officers noticed injuries on her that were consistent with her statement, Taylor said.

The ensuing investigation led to an arrest warrant issued for Jeffrey Brian LaFleur, 57, of Gonzales, on Aug. 17, Taylor said. LaFleur later turned himself in at the Gonzales County Jail. He is charged with burglary of a habitation by assault.
