GONZALES – A local woman was arrested after police said she stole a credit card from an elderly woman and used it at numerous locations.

At 1:22 p.m. Sept. 13, Officer Alberto Carrera was dispatched to HEB in reference to a report of a stolen wallet, Capt. Allen Taylor reported. Upon arrival Carrera spoke with the victim, who said that while she was shopping someone had taken her wallet out of her shopping cart. Inside the wallet was a credit card, Taylor said.

On Sept. 19 police received a call from the victim who said her credit card was used at several locations in Gonzales as well as locations in another jurisdiction.

“Information was obtained from other locations where the credit card was used that enabled us to identify the suspect, Ashley Danyelle Valenta, who is the same person identified in video footage provided to us,” Taylor said.

Valenta, 32, of Gonzales, was arrested and taken to Gonzales County Jail. She is charged with credit card abuse from the elderly.
