Luling pastor granted key to city

Pastor Jimmy Lammers of the First Baptist Church of Luling was given a key to the city of Luling by Mayor Mike Hendricks. Lammers was invited to give the invocation before the July 11 Luling City Council meeting. Following that, Hendricks said he wanted to recognize Lammers who retired from the church July 14 after 25 years of service.

Lammers was a charter member of the Zedler Mill Foundation board and worked at O’Bannon Funeral Home.

On his Facebook Lammers wrote: “It was nice to be recognized that way and I consider it a great honor. Love Luling and the people here.”

Other news from the meeting:

• Minutes from the June 13 meeting were approved, and bills were paid.
• Dayton Gonzales, Watermelon Thump board member, thanked the city for continuing to allow the festival to be held downtown. She also thanked all the organizations that helped with the event.
• Luling City Council October meeting was moved to Oct. 17, 2019 due to a time conflict.
• Joshua Farrell gave council an update on various public works projects. Farrell noted his team is working on trimming trees and overgrowth in alleys. He projects that project lasting two years.
• Police Chief Bill Sala updated council on changes in his department.
