Mable Green Hardaway

Mable Green Hardaway passed away on Jan. 25, in Victoria, Texas at the age of 78. She was born on July 3, 1939 to Frank and Lizzie Mae Green in Prairie Lea, Texas.

She married E.J. Hardaway on Oct. 17, 1968, to this union six children were born. She confessed to Christ at an early age and was a member of Sweet Canaan Baptist Church in Prairie Lea, Texas and later moved her membership to Little Hill Baptist Church in Ottine, Texas under the leadership of Pastor J.W. Smith. Mable attended school at Rosenwald in Luling, Texas. She was known to many as mama, grandma, aunt Mable, Dina and Madea because of her colorful language that she didn’t mind sharing with anyone at any time. She was a passionate woman who loved to make people laugh. It was never a dull moment while in her presence to know her was to love her.

She was employed at Texas Elks for over 30 years. She was a very generous person and was there for everyone. She loved all her family, but her life was devoted to taking care of Shirley. Her past time was playing bingo, bingo and more bingo.

Waiting for Mable at the gates of Heaven were her parents; husband, E.J. Hardaway; two sons, Daniel and John Green; three brothers, RC, Elmo and Milton Green; five sisters, Ella Warren, Willie Lea Warren, Dorothy Miles, Lizzie Mae Tealer and Nora Hardaway; and granddaughter, Pamela Green. Family in love, Bee and Georgia Hardaway, Leslie and Carrie Hodges, Clara Hardaway, Louis and Jessie Scott, Eunice Green, Joyce Merriweather and Bobby Jo Hardaway.

Mable leaves to cherish: four daughters, Joann Green, Shirley Hardaway, Maggie Greathouse and Annie Mae Hardaway of Gonzales, Texas; Thirteen grandchildren; several great- grandchildren; one sister, Bessie McVae (Ellis); one brother, Frank Green, Jr. and host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Special nephew and niece, Shelly Hardaway and Sheila Hastings.  

The family received friends on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m. at Little Hill Baptist Church in Ottine, with services following at 11 a.m. Interment followed at McKeller Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rodney Green, James Davis, Buster Sayles, Vernon Tealer, Skylar Sayles and Robert Green.
