GONZALES — A local man was jailed Sunday after police said he assaulted a woman and evaded arrest.

At 12:16 a.m. Oct. 18, Officers Dustin Kincaid and Victor Izaguirre were dispatched to the 100 block of South St. in reference to a disturbance, Capt. Allen Taylor reported. Upon arrival officers met with a woman who claimed that a man, later identified as Corey René Rodriguez, 27, of Gonzales, had assaulted her. She said after the incident Rodriguez left the house in a black Chevy pickup.

Officers later saw the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed heading north on Water St.,  Taylor said. They turned  to  follow the pickup and flashed the emergency lights to pull it over, but the pickup continued onto    South St.

It finally stopped in the middle of the street at the intersection of South and Pecan streets. Rodriguez immediately exited the vehicle with an aluminum beer bottle in his hand.

Officers spoke with the victim, who told them Rodriguez had twisted her arm behind her back while she was holding her infant son. Rodriguez was arrested and taken to Gonzales County Jail, charged with assault family violence, evading in a motor vehicle and endangering a child.
