Man nabbed for narcotics, weed, child endangerment

GONZALES — A local man faces felony charges after police said he was caught with large quantities of narcotics with a child in the home.

At 4:54 p.m. July 7, police officers and sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at the 2400 block of Church St., Capt. Allen Taylor reported. During the search of the home authorities found meth, marijuana, pills and a handgun. The search led to the arrest of 23-year-old Josh Lee Vera of Gonzales. Taylor said a child was present in the home at the time of the arrest.

Vera was taken to Gonzales County Jail and charged with possession of a dangerous drug, manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 more than 200 grams less than 400 grams, abandoning or endangering a child and possession of marijuana five pounds or less, more than four ounces.

Man charged with aggravated assault

At 10:46 a.m. July 25, Officer Alberto Carrera was dispatched to the child protective services location at the 1600 block of Sarah Dewitt, where he met with a woman and a CPS staff member. The woman told Carrera her boyfriend, later identified as Cameron Eugene Johnson, had threatened her with a knife at her residence. Taylor said that during the altercation Johnson had pointed the knife directly at her.

“A statement was obtained from the victim, and a warrant [for Johnson’s arrest] was issued that same day,” Taylor said.

Officers found Johnson, 43, of Gonzales, at a residence in the 1300 block of Cavett St. and arrested him. He was taken to Gonzales County Jail and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Man arrested for meth, tampering

At 1:40 a.m. Aug. 1, Officer Gabriel Trevino was patrolling the 500 block of Sarah Dewitt when he saw a Jeep approaching the intersection making a wide left turn. Trevino pulled the driver over and identified him as Kristopher James Law, 23, of Gonzales. Another officer informed Trevino that Law had thrown something outside the car window, Taylor said. Officers found the item on the ground - a small plastic bag containing what appeared to be meth.

Law was arrested and taken to Gonzales County Jail. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 less than 1 gram and tampering with evidence.
