Martha Liquez (Liquez) Cerda

Martha Liquez (Liquez) Cerda, 88, of Gonzales, passed away on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016 at her residence.

Funeral mass is under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales and will be held on Friday, February 19 at 10 .a.m at Saint James Catholic Church in Gonzales with Father Paul Raaz officiating. Interment will follow at Saint James Catholic Cemetery. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, Feb. 18 at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Terry Brennan officiating.

Martha was born on July 29, 1927 in Gonzales. She was the daughter of Alejandro and Enedina (Garza) Liquez. Martha married Joe Vega Cerda on Nov. 19, 1947 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gonzales. Martha was a loving and caring mother. She liked doing crossword puzzles and going shopping. She loved to go to garage sales, and she could always find the best things.

Martha is survived by sons, Joseph Cerda of Gonzales, Fermin Cerda of Gonzales; daughters; Sara Leonard of Cibolo, Marsha Jarquette and her husband, Marty of Gonzales, Elvia Martinez and her husband, David of Gonzales, Kimmy Lloyd and her husband, Shane of Gonzales; sister, Ruth Porras of Houston; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alejandro and Enedina Liquez; her loving husband of 57 years, Joe Cerda; son, Christopher Cerda; daughter, Angie Cerda; brother, Lupe Garcia; sisters, Roberta Porras, Maxie Flores, Maria Munoz, Lencha Martinez, and one grandson, Gerald Cerda.
