Mary Beatrice “Mary Bea” Arnold

Mary Beatrice “Mary Bea” Arnold, 84 years young, of Gonzales, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019. She was born Aug. 14, 1934 in LaGrange, the daughter of John Stephen and Beatrice Raska Konvicka. 

She was a graduate of Eagle Lake High School Class of 1954 and graduated from Wharton County Junior College in 1956 with an Associate of Arts degree in Business.  She married Travis Hubert Arnold on June 8, 1958 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Eagle Lake.  She worked for KCTI radio, where she was responsible for the clerical duties of the station.  She was quite the musician and played both the accordion and harmonica. 

Mary Bea and Travis were involved with the Gonzales Little Theatre where she performed in many productions.  She was the curator of the Gonzales Museum and as Mary Bea would say “Retired after 22 years, 4 months and 7 hours.” She was a charter member of the Gonzales Pilot Club. She was also a member of the Gonzales Czech Heritage Society, Catholic Daughters and a member of St. James Catholic Church. 

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she treasured as her own children, along with many loving friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother John Louis Konvicka and nephew Karl Stephen Konvicka. 

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 at St. James Catholic Cemetery followed by a Memorial Mass at St. James Catholic Church with Reverend Mike Peinemann officiating.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Gonzales Pilot Club or St. James Catholic Church.  Arrangements are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
