Mary Belle Halliburton, 82, of Gonzales and formerly of La Grange, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 16. Mary was affectionately known as “Butterfly” for her deep passion for butterflies. Mary was born May 26, 1936 in Gonzales to Harry Pick and Susie Carley Pick. She married the love of her life Sammie Ray Halliburton on July 5, 1952 in Harwood, a marriage that endured 64 years before Sammie passed away on Oct. 12, 2016.

Mary attended school in Harwood and Gonzales. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in La Grange. Mary worked as a bank teller until she received her administrators license and started working as a Nursing Home Administrator.

Mary loved deer hunting and traveling across the United States with Sammie in their motor home. She loved animals, especially her cats, Scratch, Smokie and Spot. Mary did all kinds of needle work and crafts. She made beautiful Christmas and birthday cards for her family and friends. Mary also loved playing bunco.

Mary Belle Halliburton is survived by her loving family, sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Richard Schroeder of Harwood, sister-in-law, Jo Nell Pick of Gonzales, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Jonell Pick, and brother, Ronald Pick.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 20 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Matlock officiating. Interment will follow in Harwood Cemetery. Pallbearers: Dillon Catchings, Darrell Catchings, Steven Gottwald, Dustin Catchings and Jon Pick. Memorials may be made to the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter, 240 Svoboda Ln, La Grange, TX 78945.
