Michael Alan Rothrock

Michael Alan Rothrock, 68, of Waelder, lost his battle with cancer on Monday, July 20, 2020. Michael was born November 5, 1951 in Kemmer, WY to Harry Luther Rothrock and Sylvia Joyce Buschmille Rothrock.

Michael’s family moved from Wyoming to Rockport, TX where they lived until moving to Gonzales when Michael was 11 years old. Michael thrived in Gonzales where he attended school, played baseball and football, and graduated from Gonzales High School. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs to play baseball out of high school, but his father encouraged him to pursue an education through Texas A&M University. While in college, Michael found time and enjoyed riding bulls in rodeo circuits until he was injured. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M and completed his Master’s degree in Entomology in 1976.  Michael moved to Corpus Christi and worked as the San Patricio County Extension Agent until joining Pioneer Hybrid International as an Agronomist. He retired near the year 2000 and but soon after went to work as an insurance agent for Texas Farm Bureau in Gonzales.

Michael loved everything about agriculture. He loved raising cattle and caring for everything on his farm.  He was extremely organized and detail oriented. He lived his life “by the book” and expected the same commitment from his family. He cut no corners or put anything off for another day.  He was honest and exceptionally hard working. Michael loved to watch college and NFL football games and liked the series “Law and Order.”  He found peace in listening to Country music from days gone by and took great pride in a job well done. Clearly the Lord might well feel the same sense of pride as He received Michael and offered His pleasing assurance, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Michael Rothrock is survived by his loving family, daughter and son-in-law, Brittany Michele and Brent Dell Partin of Bryan, son and daughter-in-law, Brandon Wade and Elizabeth Ann Rothrock of Waelder, and grandchild, Kaden Michael Partin. He was preceded in death by his parents.
